Save Money On Car Insurance When You Are Traveling

Written by Neil Galloway

The past couple years, I have found an excellent way to save myself around $100 with not much effort. My car insurance has the handy feature that I can downgrade the coverage to only fire and theft for a period of time and then reactivate it. All it takes is a phone call to my insurance company letting them know when to downgrade it and when I want it back on, I just have to call.

I pay close to $100 a month on my truck and another $50 for my car. Fire and theft is around $5 per vehicle so I can go from $150/month down to $10/month while I am away.

Please note that this only works well if there aren't activation fees or other monetary penalties that get applied for doing it. If you are leaving on holidays for a period of time and know that you will not use your vehicle, you should definitely check it out.
